About Dogs-The Airedale Terrier

The Airedale is also known as the King of Terriers: they are the largest of all the terrier breeds and encompasses many of the qualities of this group of dogs. He is a native of Great Britain, from the county of Yorkshire, and it is reputed that the Airedale Show gave the breed of dog its name. Lots of ‘Waterside Terriers’ coming from the valleys of the rivers Wharfe, Calder and Aire were shown at the show, making up a considerable entry.

The Airedale
boasts outstanding scenting abilities and has been utilised in The african continent, India and Canada for the purpose of tracking. They have also aided the Red Cross during times of conflict and has seen service with police and in the armed forces of both Britain as well as Russia.

He is an outstanding pet dog, particularly good with youngsters and constantly wanting to participate in their activities. Not aggressive by nature but protective of his family members, they are a devoted companion, ready for a walk without notice or even a journey in the car. Their double coat is water resistant and a regular brush and comb will keep him looking good.

Having said that, he will shed his fur twice yearly, and so on these occasions it is advisable to have him expertly stripped. Provided they have daily exercising they are a great choice for both town or country living.

Keeping Marine Fish the Easy Way!

Keeping marine fish is not quite as straightforward as keeping freshwater fish as you need more input into keeping your fish in the correct environment. A Marine Conversion Kit therefore makes keeping marine fish in an aquarium much easier.
This new Marine Kit contains all one needs to convert any biOrb tank of up to 60 litres capacity into a fish only salt water aquarium. Within the contents of the kit you will find meticulously measured packets of reef salt, a hydrometer and a simple guide, all of which simplify the way to keep fish in an aquarium.
25% of the water should be changed with fresh saltwater every 4-5 weeks by mixing some of the reef salt in the kit with tap water. This is important as otherwise the levels of nitrate within the water will increase and this can prevent the gills of the fish from taking in sufficient oxygen as well as causing liver and kidney problems and problems with their eyes.
The marine conversion kit also contains a special marine filter cartridge that contains the exact amount of water conditioners to help keep your aquarium in perfect working order.
All this and many more aquarium products can be found at Home Pet Shop and ordered from their online pet supermarket.

Feeding peanuts to small pets and birds

It's important when feeding birds and small pets peanuts that the nuts are fresh and have been tested for aflotoxin. Aflatoxin is produced by a kind of fungus named Aspergillus and can cause liver disease and cancer in both birds and animals.

It can be present in many grains as well as peanuts and can affect wild birds and poultry as well as caged birds. The same applies to hamsters and other small animals which might be fed peanuts in their diet.

Therefore only buy best peanuts that have been tested and approved and where this has been verified on the packaging as high levels of toxin can kill.

See Home Pet Shop for safe peanuts on offer.

About Dogs-The Staffordshire Bull Terrier

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier was originally developed as a fighting dog in the 19th century by breeding Bulldogs with a number of different terrier breeds. However dog fighting in the UK was banned in 1911 and with the ban came a huge decline in the Staffordshire’s popularity.
In spite of this it managed to survive as a breed and today, through selective breeding, its temperament has somewhat mellowed and its popularity has increased considerably over the past decade.
The Staffordshire Bull Terrier, otherwise called a ‘Staffie’ is a compact, muscular dog that can make a very loyal and affectionate companion but remains fearless amongst other dogs and can be very strong-willed.
Its height should be between 14-16 in (36-41cm) and weight 25-38lb (11-17kg) with a life expectancy of between 12-14 years.
Home Pet Shop has a great range of products to buy online for Staffordshire Bull Terriers including, collars, leads and harnesses.
